Description: Many early Scouts Troops were formed as adjuncts of Church and Sunday schools, in part because they were seen as a more energetic and engaging means of inculcating Christian and cultural values to young males. Haddington's troop was supervised by members of the Salvation Army. This is a black and white photograph printed on a postcard with a title strapline SALVATION ARMY HADDINGTON FIRST TROOP. It shows a group portrait of uniformed boys and two young men wearing dark Salvation Army uniforms. The philosophy espoused by Baden-Powell in his book Scouting for Boys was eagerly adopted in communities across Britain.
