DRDT Partner Sites

A number of you have been asking us for lists of Partner sites we've given a little helping hand with. Well, I've finally gotten round to compiling that list. Instant apologies if I've missed your site out. For details I'm sure you'll know where to click.

DRDT Impact

Our second external evaluation, examining the impact the DRDT project has had within its project museums, has just been completed. It includes six case studies from a selection of our partners focussing on some of the work they’ve undertaken with us over the last three and a half years.

DRDT and ESMP Conference

Thanks to all our project partners who turned out for our conference and the East of Scotland Museum partnership conference on Thursday 25th September. I think you'll agree it was a roaring success including the opening address from Peter Gray - which has been on You Tube and will be again once I've had time to sort out the usual aspect ratio problems. We do have other things to see there though.

Touring Exhibition

Our touring Exhibition - Simply Samplers - started off in February at Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Centre. It's been in various locations throughout West Lothian and is opening in the Scottish Borders in July. See our Simply Samplers site for details and much more including games, audio and video.

We suggest the client may want their site content to include location and accessibility information, opening time and contact details, as well as a mission statement, history of the building/collection and details of the current exhibition.

We can show you how. These days DVD players can be bought for around £20 and TVs for not much more.

Below is a brief rundown of the sort of things we're going to offer partner museums.

We will assess each client's current skills and knowledge of relevant software and hardware. All training will be based on the expansion of this skill and knowledge as well as encouraging future research. We will try to minimise costs to the client throughout these exercises by suggesting free and/or minimal expense software and hardware solutions for completing these tasks and use existing equipment wherever possible.

We will offer training on digitising and manipulating existing images for archive use and on-line publishing as well as offering training on the use of digital cameras and associated equipment for capturing images.

We could, if necessary, offer assistance with DTP packages for producing short run flyers for print and downloadable PDF versions.

Digital Resources Project - Action Plan

We aim to educate and assist our client organisations in skills necessary to digitise their current and future exhibitions making them available on-line and as other multimedia digital formats.

Regional Museums Training Development Project

Changes to the environment in which museums and heritage organisations work have brought to light gaps between the knowledge and the skills required to meet the modern needs of the market for museum services. The creation of a Regional Museums Training Development Project will provide a mechanism to address these key skills gaps for museum business and, in so doing, increase the overall capacity of the sector.

Single User Survey - Results So Far

How does your knowledge compare to the rest?

When a museum or related organisations signs up to the project we ask all staff requiring training to fill in a survey asking questions about their current knowledge of various computer related activities. This information provides us with background information which helps us assess how in-depth our training provision has to be and at what level we will need to start from. It also provides us with a baseline of knowledge with which to compare future surveys to.

Partner Needs Survey

We are currently sending out�the Partner Needs Survey for the Training Development Project so we can find out your training needs. If you have not received a copy then please contact us on 01896 833 837 or museumstraining@scotborders.gov.uk and we will get one sent out to you. Results from the surveys will be made available at the end of October.

RMTDP Training Programme and Support Fund

An outline of the�Regional Museums Training Development Project's�training programme for 2006 is now available, along with details of how you can apply to the project's Training Support Fund.
